F.A.Q.

What kind of conditions can be helped by this therapy?

Almost any type of acute or chronic pain can be greatly reduced and often eliminated with this treatment. Some common examples are: low back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, foot pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive use injuries, fibromyalgia, migraine, trigeminal neuralgia, whiplash, post surgical pain, pain from broken bones and soft tissue injuries, neuropathic and radiculopathic pain syndromes and many other non-specific pain conditions.

How long does it take before I see results?

Most people will experience an immediate and significant reduction of pain during the first session. The degree of relief experienced varies from person to person, depending on various factors. Older patients and/or patients with severe or multiple conditions will generally require a little more therapy than a younger person with a single condition.

How many treatments will I need?

That depends on your condition, and will be evaluated by your therapist at your first appointment and throughout the course of treatment. Effects are cumulative. A typical course of treatment would have a higher visit frequency to begin with and then as the patient heals, fewer treatments are necessary.

I have just had surgery. Is it appropriate for me to receive this therapy right away?

Absolutely, provided any contra-indications have been ruled out. (Call our office for details). The therapy greatly enhances the body’s innate healing mechanism and will rapidly reduce recovery time from any type of physical trauma. Early treatment of incision sites can greatly reduce scarring.

Are there any contraindications for this treatment?

Yes. If you are pregnant, have epilepsy or wear a pacemaker then one of the key facets of this therapy is not suitable for you. You would receive a modified treatment which omits the electro-therapeutic point stimulation component of the therapy. Since LFT is a hybrid approach combining several different components, you would receive a customized treatment omitting E.T.P.S., which will still yield significant therapeutic benefit.

What is E.T.P.S.?

E.T.P.S. is a hybrid therapy developed and taught by Bruce Hocking, D. Ac., (M.D.M.A.), Toronto, Canada. Electro Therapeutic Point Stimulation applies concentrated super low frequency DC bio-compatible micro-current stimulation to acupuncture points, motor/trigger points and contracted motor bands to provide immediate pain relief, decrease muscle tonicity and accelerate tissue repair for any form of musculoskeletal disorder, regardless of cause. Juliet Mathison has trained in E.T.P.S. directly under Dr. Bruce R. Hocking (developer of the technique), of Toronto, Canada, and has taken specialized training in orthopedic surgery post operative protocols developed by Irene Husja, Physical Therapist of The Year and Dr. Bruce Hocking.

What is P.N.F.?

Enhanced proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation is a technique for re-programming cellular memory holding patterns in the musculature and connective tissue. It restores range of motion, relieves spasticity and can reduce or eliminate pain.

Do you take health insurance?
